Education and Formation
Despite partially opening for in-person worship, we're currently not running Sunday School or adult formation at this time. We will evaluate the situation in the fall.
Sunday school classes are aimed at children, aged 4 and up. Classes begin at 9:45 am and overlap with the 10:30 am service. On Sundays when the Eucharist is celebrated, children rejoin their parents in the Sanctuary mid-way through the service.
For children age 4 through second grade, we are using a curriculum called Godly Play which was developed by an Episcopal priest based on the Montessori method of teaching. This curriculum focuses on teaching the vocabulary of the church and basic Bible stories.
For older children, we use the Children's Curriculum of the Virginia Theological Seminary. This is a thematic Sunday school curriculum that focuses on the symbols of the church, the lessons, Gospels and the purpose of the Book of Common Prayer.
Those wishing to help during Sunday school should contact the church office. All volunteer who work with our children are asked to attend a “Safe Guarding our Children” workshop.
Our adult formation classes meet at 9:30, every Sunday in the church library. The time makes is feasible for attendees of either the 8:30 or 10:30 services to attend. The class runs about an hour.
Classes are topical, and frequently follow a multi-week theme. We try to post the current theme in the announcements section of our front page.
